1. Centre Bans Red Beacons For VIPs, President, Vice-President, PM, Lok Sabha Speaker


The government decided on Wednesday to ban red beacons atop cars of all ministers, politicians, and bureaucrats, ending a privilege that was seen as the ultimate status symbol. The ban, effective from May 1, doesn’t exempt even vehicles of the country’s top dignitaries such as the President, Prime Minister and the Chief Justice of India. But ambulances and vehicles of the fire service, police, and army will be allowed to use blue flashing beacons to cut through traffic.

2. 44 Dead After Bus Falls Into Tons River in Shimla


In a major accident, 44 people were killed when a private bus rolled off the road and fell into the river in remote Nerwa area of Shimla district along the border of Sirmaur district in Himachal Pradesh.

3. Cabinet Clears EC’s Proposal to Buy New Paper Trail Machines


The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, cleared the Election Commission’s proposal to buy new Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines on Wednesday. Ahead of the 2019 General Elections, the EC has been given the go ahead to procure 16,15,000 units, at an estimated base price of Rs. 3,173.47 crore.

4. Railways to Give Makeover To Toilets

Toilets in the trains, a source of much pain for passengers, are all set to get a major makeover to resemble those in premium-class airlines. Railway has already prepared a prototype of new ergonomic, modular toilets for all AC as well as non-AC classes.

5. Sahara Group’s Properties Get Massive Interest


A large number of companies, including the Tatas, Godrej, Adani and Patanjali group, have shown interest in buying Sahara group’s 30 properties estimated to be worth about Rs 7,400 crores. Chennai-based Apollo hospital has shown interest in buying Sahara hospital in Lucknow.

Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley said that if being charge sheeted was a rule for removal then there would be very few Congress Chief Ministers left. “This (Babri masjid) matter is on since 1993, and it is not a new situation. This it will go on as it has till now,” said the Minister.
