Very few people have the nerve to defy Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan in public, let alone wage a war, given the kind of clout he has within the Indian film industry and his passionate legion of fans. But Sapna Bhavnani isn’t one of them as she time and time again has had uncomplimentary things to say about ‘Bhai’.
The hairstylist to many celebrities such as M S Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Ranveer Singh, Katrina Kaif among others, is also a strong feminist and is in the process of writing a book on her life. But, she refuses to acknowledge him in it, despite her contentious relationship with him stemming from her appearance on the ‘Big Boss’ show a few years back.
Bhavnani was also amon the first to condemn Khan for his infamous rape comment a couple of months ago in leadup to the release of his film ‘Sultan’. “It’s insulting to have an Indian man talk like that on an international platform. I am embarrassed to call myself an Indian when statements like these go out worldwide. I was very vocal about it on Twitter, and everywhere. I got a lot of flak for it, but flak or stalkers and trollers should not be the reason why you should stop voicing the truth.” said the 45-yr old, who reveals receiving rape threats on her Twitter following her coming out against Khan.
But Bhavnani revealed that wasn’t the first time she faced threats from Khan supporters, as following her stint on the TV reality show ‘Big Boss’, she had been told to lay off Khan and received death threats!
For her part, she wasn’t a fan of the experience on the show. “You have a male chauvinistic f***ing pig as a host of this f***ing show, that insults people, so people watch the show, and people worship him on the show because people want a job in one f his stupid f***-all movies where he dances like a monkey – that’s big boss in a nutshell,” she says.
Going by the accounts, her book promises to be explosive. Bhavnani had also created quite a stir when she came out and spoke about being a survivor of gangrape when aged 24 in Chicago, US. As for whether the book will be fiction or non-fiction, Bhavnani isn’t revealing too much…”if you can’t tell, I am not telling’.”
